Hunters in the Snow
by Tobias Wolff

Characterization plays a big role in this story. Each of the three main characters' character traits play an important role of the action of the story. First of all, Kenny is confrontational. Most of the conflict in the story comes from Kenny. For example, at the beginning of the story Kenny almost runs over Tub on purpose. Then later on he threatens to shoot Tub, causing Tub to shoot him first. Then, this leads to Frank and Tub having to take him to the hospital and making a wrong turn. Frank, on the other hand, tries to pacify everyone to avoid conflict. When Kenny was bleeding in the back of the truck, Frank told him to just say "I'm going to the hospital" over and over to calm him down. Additionally, Frank acts like there is nothing wrong with Kenny and takes his time driving to the hospital. Finally, Tub is the odd man out. Kenny and Frank drive up together to get Tub and walk on the opposite side of the riverbank leaving Tub by himself. This makes him feel like no one understands him.
