Othello
Shakespeare

Although there were many racial slurs in the first act toward Othello, most people respect him. He is a war hero and a good commander. The Duke even respects him and asks his opinion in the war with the Turks. In the second act, Montano also says he is a good commander while wishing him well. "Pray Heavens he be, For I have served him, and the man commands Like a full soldier. (II i 34-36)" This shows how well respected he is because Montano is not talking to anyone important so he his not kissing up to any one. Additionally, all of the people on the ship with Montano are wishing Othello well. They wait anxiously for a sign of his ship. When they finally see it there is shouting and excitement. This shows just how much the men respect and like Othello.
